William Robert CareyCarey has a B.A. in English from Northwestern University and attended DePaul Graduate School and Columbia Film School. A member of 5 entertainment unions, he has worked as an actor in Chicago and LA; written and produced commercials for ad agencies such as Leo Burnett and Campbell-Mithun-Esty, and won awards for producing and directing commercials. He directed Angels In Stardust starring Alicia Silverstone, AJ Michalka and Billy Burke, a film inspired by his novel, Jesus In Cowboy Boots. He is the author of IDOL MINDS, a black screwball comedy. His expressionistic drama about the fraught relationship between a parent and transgender child, DANIEL/DANIELLE, won the 2019 Scribe Playwriting Competition Marsha A. Croyle Award For Achievement in Playwriting. And his memoir about the independent film business, "How NOT To Make A Movie, An Independent Filmmaker In Hollywood Hell," was published by McFarland & Company in December 2020.
